ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN ADVISOR

At CNP, Georgia State certified advisors are responsible for providing educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses and determining appropriate education solutions for different types of students. They must also follow through and track the advancement of students. Additionally, academic advisors must provide case management to students who do not meet local educational requirements. Academic advisors also provide assistance for at-risk students.

Advisors will establish and maintain contact with students and their parents or guardians. They will also initiate and maintain relationships with college and career specialists, the school principal, classroom teachers and other participants through regular meetings, conferences, and follow up. The purpose is to ensure student access and success to Georgia’s College/Career Pathway programs (http://www.gadoe.org). Additionally, advisors will advise and monitor students’ social and personal growth and encourage and support students through this minefield of life while dealing with peer pressure, bullies and social media.  Advisors will caution students about dangers and risks of social media and peer pressure. Advisors develop relationships with students to support them in establishing a strong sense of wellbeing.
